UV Protection - Don't Forget The Sunglasses

If you are going to be exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun, then you need to apply a sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 15 - higher if you are fair skinned or have shown a previous sensitivity to sunlight. Sunscreen should be applied over all exposed areas of your skin, and you should limit your time in the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM, when the sun's rays are at their most intense.

ADD- Society Needs Hunters

In prehistoric times, we now know there were two types of human, and each type was just as important to the survival of humanity as the other. One group gathered the nuts, berries, and fruits that they found. The other group went out and hunted for meat. Without both, humanity would never have survived.

But the tasks involved in each job were different. The gatherers used their senses of sight and smell to find food that was readily available. There was little concern that they would be eaten by whatever they found, they just picked it and put it aside. But their job involved concentration and focus so that they didn't miss things that were edible along the way.

Once these gatherers learned to till the soil, they became farmers. No longer did they have to search for food. Then, they became tenders of the crops, assuring that there would be food for everyone, even when the hunters were unsuccessful.

Hunters were different. They had no patience for tending crops and so went off in search of the animals to kill. They used all their senses, especially those of sight, smell, and hearing. They were alert at all times and ready for action. If they weren't constantly searching and wary, they would lose the meal or maybe be eaten by it.

How does this apply to modern times? Well, we still need hunters and we need farmers. The farmers are the linear folks. They support everything that goes on in our day-to-day life. They're administrators and caretakers. ADD people are different. More like the hunters, we're constantly looking for the next new thing. Though we're quick and smart and are able to think on our feet, we aren't finishers. We're often people who create the systems.

But this is the thing: Though people with attention deficit might create the systems, we usually aren't comfortable running them. There is still a vital need for there to be two kinds of people in the world. ADD is now labeled a "disorder" because we just aren't happy with tending the fields or any kind of job that requires us to just stay put and do the same routine over and over. Our ADD brains just aren't built that way!

ADD people in linear jobs are usually pretty unhappy. If that's your scenario, find another job that does suit your attention deficit. You're creative, so maybe you'd be a good writer or producer of some other creative materials. Entrepreneurialism is perfect for people with ADD because you're very good at creating new ideas. You just need a team of people that makes sure they're carried out. These will probably be linear people, and the combination works out very well.

Problem-solving is another great ADD quality. What if you got a job as a detective or a computer specialist? You have to decide what's right for you and your particular brand of ADD. But think about what excites you. What makes your hyperfocus kick in? These are the places you should be creatively seeking employment.

Forget the labels. Just because you're ADD doesn't make you a misfit. You're an integral part of what makes our society go-'round. If you're in a linear-type job that's making you unhappy, find a job that's better suited to ADD, and you'll see that life doesn't have to be so hard.

The main reason why asthma would become worse over time is if it is not properly controlled. Now whilst asthma may not always be cured, there is a way in which you can try to prevent asthma attacks. When children are young for example, having them surrounded by animals could stop them developing an allergy to them. However if the child is already allergic to the animal then it may be better to just avoid keeping pets altogether.

Avoiding anything which sets the asthma off is also recommended. Keeping a journal will help you to identify the triggers of your asthma and that is the best way to know what to avoid. So every time that you feel an asthma attack coming on, write down what you were doing at the time, where you were and who or what was around you.

Finally there are also natural remedies which may help you to prevent your asthma from coming on. Some people prefer natural remedies because they do not cause any side effects. If you are interested in these types of treatments then it would be a good idea to research more about them before taking anything. Overall there is no official cure to asthma but it can lessen in severity over time.

When a Loved One Has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - What Do You Do?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) may have struck a family member. Most certainly, you know someone who has been stricken by this misunderstood and debilitating illness. CFS can strike both sexes and any age group. You may feel helpless and confused about what to say or do for a stricken relative or friend.

Seeing a loved one in such pain is difficult. Your relationship experiences new challenges brought on by the illness. If you already have existing relationship problems, they are worsened by the stress such challenges bring.

You want to be positive and supportive but what do you say or do? You may have even tried to be supportive only to find your loved one reacts with frustration. What are you to do? The Chronic Fatigue and Immune System Dysfunction Syndrome Association of America has offered suggestions that may assist you:

You must first understand the condition.


Most of us know almost nothing about CFS. It goes far beyond a little fatigue or a few aches and pains. You should learn as much as possible about CFS if you have a relative or friend who suffers with it. The more you learn, the more support you will be able to offer.

CFS affects the brain and multiple parts of the body. It causes extreme fatigue that is not relieved with bed rest. This fatigue is often made worse by physical or mental activity. Symptoms of CFS last at least six months and become severe enough to impair or interfere with daily activities. Symptoms of CFS vary from person to person and may include:

* Chronic fatigue that is not relieved by bed rest and often worsens with physical or mental activity


* General weakness


* Muscle aches


* Joint pain absent of swelling or redness


* Headaches


* Short-term memory or concentration problems


* Confusion and/or forgetfulness


* Irritability, anxiety, mood swings, or depression


* Low grade fever, hot flashes, or night sweats


* Sore throat


* Tenderness in the lymph nodes


* Sleeplessness or not feeling refreshed after sleep


* Prolonged fatigue lasting 24 hours or more after exercise


* Eyes sensitive to light


* Allergies


* Dizziness


* Chest pain or shortness of breath


* Nausea

Do not invalidate the condition.


People sometimes believe that individuals with CFS exaggerate their symptoms or they are lazy or suffer from a psychiatric condition. These people may believe their loved one only needs to push a little harder. You can invalidate someone who suffers with CFS when you say:

* You look good to me. (meaning: You don't look sick, therefore you must be exaggerating or faking.)


* Oh, I've had symptoms like that before. I get tired like that, too. (meaning: So, what's the big deal? Everybody gets tired. Get some rest.)


* Have you tried (a suggested treatment)? (meaning: If you don't take this remedy or do anything to help yourself, it's your own fault that you're still sick.


* Are you still sick? (meaning: What's wrong with you? It's your fault that you're still sick.)

Acknowledge and Validate the Person's Experience.


People with CFS often face many challenges, including:

* Not being taken seriously by their families, friends, employers, and even their doctors and other healthcare providers


* The unpredictability of their illness


* A decreased ability to participate in professional, social, educational, and personal activities


* Isolation and a sense of dependency

When you fully acknowledge your loved one's condition, you demonstrate to him or her you truly care, love, and support him or her. The following tips can help:

Acknowledge the difficulty: I can't imagine how difficult all these changes must be for you.

Acknowledge loss, sadness, and anger: I'm really sorry you had to give up your job. It must be horrible to not have the strength to continue your education.

Inquire and listen with compassion: If you only want to hear that your loved one is feeling good, don't ask how they are feeling. Otherwise, they may sense your expectation, disappointment, disinterest, or inability to understand. You might ask: How are you managing things today? or What's going on?

Be supportive and understanding.


Chronic illness presents many relationship challenges at a time when comfort and social support are of the highest importance. Here are some ways you can help:

* Be patient. Remember, your loved one has had to make many adjustments and is doing the best he can.


* Provide frequent reassurances of your love and support.


* Provide practical help by as running errands, helping with household chores, and shopping.


* Take your loved one to medical appointments. Show an interest in his care and provide emotional support.


* Find ways to spend time together, doing low-energy activities like watching a video, dining, playing a game, sitting in the park, or giving a massage.


* Don't feel it's your responsibility to fix problems or give advice. Many times, just being there, listening, and showing compassion is all that's needed.


* Express gratitude for whatever your loved one can give you, in spite of his or her limits.
* Ask how you can help.


* Give admiration for the strength and courage you see in your loved one as he copes with the challenges of the illness.


* Do not take emotional reactions personally. Your loved one may have mood swings due to the stress and challenges of having a chronic illness.


* Listen and be perceptive. Try to be sensitive to your loved one's feelings and needs.


* Stay in contact with your loved one. He may not be as active and involved in mutual interests as he once was, but invite him anyway.

Anticipate changes and unpredictability.


CFS is a very unpredictable illness. Symptoms can change, so your loved one may not be able to predict how he will feel hours or even minutes ahead of an event. Be sensitive to this and anticipate the following situations:

* Sometimes, it may take longer than usual for him to do certain things.


* It may be hard for him to make definite plans.


* He may want to be alone instead of being with you when his energy is very low..


* CFS can cause cognitive problems and brain fog. He may sometimes forget things.


* Unpredictable emotional ups and downs may occur.

Healing With Sound

When one lives in a state of wellness, the clear energetic vibrations which defines a person resonates with the universal energy. US Healthcare - Finding help and resources

The United States, like other countries provide both private and public health insurance, but there is far more private than public health care. It is the only industrialized country that does not have publicly mandated government-funded coverage for all citizens (apart from South Africa). At the same time however, health care expenditures in the US total over 15% of the GDP, which is greater than any other developed country.

Most people in the US obtain insurance through their employer or on their own. Unfortunately almost 17% of the population are uninsured and have to pay upfront which leads to delay in medical care, missed tests, treatments and follow-up. Almost 20% of the uninsured population is able to afford insurance, almost 25% are eligible for public coverage, and the rest (56%) need financial assistance (8.9% of the US population).

Private Health Insurance:

There are over 1000 private health insurance companies and most offer a fee-for-service insurance plan (with higher premiums) and at usually more than one type of managed care plan (health care delivery system with restrictions on provide choice and referrals, and with lower premiums, eg HMO, PPO, and POS). Some insurance plans cover medications while others do not. Cost-sharing (co-pays and deductibles) is also variable. 60% of the population obtain insurance from employers, while just above 9% buy their own.

Of the many insurance providers, Blue Cross/Blue Shield is a nonprofit carrier that is regulated by insurance agencies in each state. It is an insurance provider for 30 %-50% of working people in the US. Blue Cross caters to hospital costs, while Blue Shield pays for medical tests.

Government-funded Insurance:

Almost 30% of the population is covered by public health care, much lower than other developed nations.

Medicare is provided by the Federal government (through social security) and is for those >65 yo regardless of income and people of any age with chronic disabilities or debilitating illnesses. It covers inpatient hospital costs, home health care, nursing home care for up to 3 months post-hospitalization, hospice care, dialysis, physical therapy, laboratory tests, outpatient care, physician bills, ambulance service and medical equipment. Note that the latter 7 services listed are optional and have a 20% copayment and at least a $100 deductible.

Medicaid is managed by both the federal and state governments. Eligible people include those with very low income (indigent) except childless adults, with 1/3 of the medicaid budget allocated to nursing home care for indigent elderly people. It also provides for inpatient and outpatient hospital costs, physician bills, home health care, hospice care, laboratory tests, dialysis, medication and very importantly long-term nursing care that is not funded by medicare.

In addition, the Department of Veteran Affairs directly provides health care to injured U.S. military veterans and current servicemen and women through a nationwide network of government hospitals (non-injured veterans are often not covered). It basically offers extremely affordable and sometimes free care to veterans

Other public systems include S-CHIP: The State Children's Insurance Program (S-CHIP) covers children whose families make too much income to qualify for Medicaid but have too little to buy private health insurance.

Although many states have discussed an overhaul of the US health system, only a few states have really attempted to provide universal health care coverage, eg Minnesota and Massachusetts (Massachusetts 2006 Health Reform Statute). Other US states (in particular New Jersey) help to cover many people (but not all) by reimbursing hospitals and other health-care providers using what is generally characterized as a charity care scheme.

Charity and Free Clinic facilities:

These centers offer healthcare for free or for a small fee and generally limited to those with lower income and no health insurance, including those not eligible for Medicaid and Medicare. They primarily treat acute, non-emergency conditions and some primary care for prevention and chronic conditions. There are a few that have pharmacies and dental services.

The staff are usually volunteer healthcare professionals and the facilities rely heavily on private donations, foundations, the United Way, and local governments. There have been some student-run clinics (eg Stanford University Arbor Clinic, and San Jose's Pacific Free Clinic) that provide for the underserved community and help provide training for medical students.

Our nurses who would like to participate in the healthcare decision making process must master advanced mass communication skills in order to "work" the media and get the appropriate messages across as wide a cross section as possible. In this day and age of hourly news cycles and instant Internet communication, nurses in such leadership roles must have the skills to understand and manipulate the way the news is created, distributed and consumed. They need to plan their strategies by leveraging such comprehensive media expertise.

Again, and related to that, is the necessity for the nursing community as a whole to get involved in better public relations and explain at a higher level the crucial role they play in the national health system.

Although there is no single formula for a perfect weight loss that is application to everyone, there are general ways that suggest a successful battle against weight. Here are the 10 top tips for a successful weight loss:

1. Set a Realistic Goal and make a plan – A goal gives you something to look forward to. A good plan leads you in achieving your goal. For example, your goal is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks and you will have to lose 1 pound per week or something similar to that. But what will you do to shed 1 pound in 7 days? This is where your plan comes in. Since losing excess weight does not happen in an instant, you will need to know what are the things you should do in order to achieve it. Factors such as eating habits and daily activities will come into play. Make a good plan that will help you achieve your goal. One you have a realistic goal and a good plan, it is up to you to faithfully follow it.

2. Set priorities – It is not enough to have a realistic goal and plan; you should as well make weight loss your priority.

3. Change your lifestyle – Eating less but staying on the couch the whole day will get you fat so do not single out the food you eat as the main reason why you are that big. Change your bad lifestyle to good and stay on it.

4. Vaccination - Don't Get Stuck on This One

Stop Press! - the reports about side-effects of the new 'cervical
cancer immunization' are beginning to seep into the press.

But don't expect too many reports - the government, which is
backing the drug with a multi-million dollar advertising campaign
will probably squash and counter any negative posts by asserting
that 'everything is all ok' and 'don't you worry about a thing.'

Well, the truth of the matter is that everything is not all ok.

There will be some immediate reactions - as seen from the early
procedures - but the real dangers will remain hidden for some time
to come - possibly years and even generations.

The healtheducator asserts that the health of the body is first and
foremost dependant upon the purity of the bloodstream.

Therefore, to inject any form of poison or foreign matter into the
blood goes against logical thinking.

On Vaccinations/Immunisations

Louis Kuhne - from his timeless book 'New Science of Healing' says
that;

- 'Vaccination is another system of introducing poison into the
body, much to be regretted, for through it the human race becomes
ever more degenerated.'

- 'Vaccination has the effect of greatly weakening the vitality of
the organism.'

Dr. Phillip Lovell - in his book 'The Health of the Child' says;

- 'When a drug is taken into our digestive tube it is nowhere near
as deadly as when directly injected into our blood stream.'

- 'When, however, all the defences of the body are shattered by the
penetrating power of the hypodermic needle or syringe, these
defences are of no avail'

Ed note: These defences are the body's normal abilities to dilute
poisons that are introduced orally and to handle said poisons by
the normal channels of elimination and excretion.

Think again and again before you permit the hypodermic needle or
the syringe for any purpose.
